Finding a Pharmacy

You may need to show identification, depending on whether the pharmacist knows you. The pharmacist will verify your registration with a GP in Wales using the NHS Wales Welsh Demographic Service. No appointment is needed—you can visit at your convenience. Consultations with a qualified pharmacist will occur in a private area of the pharmacy. If the pharmacist deems medication necessary, it will be provided free of charge. If you opt not to register, you’ll receive advice but no free medication.

Find a Pharmacy

Who can use the service?

The service is available to Wales residents registered with a GP practice. You should visit your GP if:

  • The pharmacist recommends it, or
  • You need a prescription-only medicine.

Can I still visit my GP?

Yes, you can book a GP appointment if you prefer.

Can I use other pharmacies?

You can visit other pharmacies to purchase medicines or collect prescriptions, but:

  • The service is only available at the pharmacy where you’re registered.
  • Using one pharmacy for all your medications is safer, as it ensures a complete record of your medicines, allowing the pharmacist to confirm their suitability if your health changes.
